7) quadral ALTIMA® diaphragms
What sets quadral ALTIMA® apart from other diaphragms?quadral ALTIMA® features a unique and effective blend of the three light metals aluminium, titanium and magnesium.
The main reason why diverse diaphragm materials produce different sounds lies in the fact that a diaphragm bends uncontrollably when oscillating, and then does not work optimally with the moving coil.
The extent of these "partial oscillations" largely determines the inherent sound of a diaphragm. Soft plastic models, for example, tend to sound sluggish and dull. Currently quite popular, aluminium diaphragms on the other hand tend to produce a hard sound, whilst paper diaphragms make their way in the one or the other direction soundwise, depending on their composition. Manufacturers therefore do their utmost to suppress material-induced self-resonance and distribute it over various frequencies in order to cover it over as well as possible.
In contrast, quadral ALTIMA® opens up possibilities of a very different kind. On the one hand, due to this material composition, the material resonances can be forced out or displaced from where they are active and, on the other hand, quadral ALTIMA® enables a bundling of the resonances and then their elimination via network effects. This may sound simple, but it is almost impossible to achieve with other materials.
High-speed response, superbly precise detailing and the absence of inherent resonance are factors that make the quadral ALTIMA® diaphragms so special and set them apart from the rest.
